Campervan Hire in Marrakech: The Complete Guide

Requirements, equipment, van handover, best season and packing list: everything you need to know before renting a campervan in Marrakech, Morocco.

Marrakech is the perfect starting point to explore Morocco by campervan: within a few hours' drive you can reach the Atlantic Ocean, the Atlas mountains or the gateway to the Sahara. Renting a campervan means travelling at your own pace, waking up to stunning views and changing plans whenever you like. Here is everything you need to know before booking, whether it is your first road trip or not.

Why explore Morocco by campervan?

  • Freedom: no hotels to book in advance, no bus timetables. Stay an extra night wherever you feel at home.
  • Comfort: your accommodation travels with you, with a bed, kitchen, shower and toilet on board.
  • Simplicity: one pick-up point in Marrakech, one vehicle, and stops you choose along the way.
  • Huge variety in a short distance: beaches and fishing villages, Atlas valleys, palm groves and dunes.

How does renting with Atlas Nomad Campers work?

  1. Choose your dates. Check availability and book on Airbnb, on WhatsApp or through our booking form.
  2. Confirm your booking. For direct bookings, a 30% down payment is made by bank transfer; the balance is paid before or at handover.
  3. Van handover in Marrakech. By appointment, in Marrakech or at car park P2 of Marrakech-Menara airport, as agreed with you. We take the time to show you the vehicle and all its equipment.
  4. Your road trip. We share free road trip ideas and remain reachable during your trip.
  5. Return in Marrakech, at the same place, on the agreed date.

Rental requirements

  • Driver aged 25 or over.
  • Category B (car) driving licence held for at least 5 years.
  • Security deposit of 20,000 MAD at pick-up.
  • Pick-up and return in Marrakech.

Bring your passport and driving licence. Before you travel, check that your licence is valid in Morocco for a tourist stay; an International Driving Permit can be useful during roadside checks.

What's on board

Our campervan is a fully equipped converted van:

  • 3 certified seats for driving, with swivel front seats and a telescopic table;
  • sleeps 4 when parked, on 2 double bunk beds, with bedding provided;
  • an equipped kitchen: fridge, microwave, 2 electric hobs, sink and utensils;
  • an indoor shower (cold water) and a toilet in a private space;
  • Wi-Fi, a 30 m extension cable and a water hose;
  • camping furniture: table, folding chairs and a foldable barbecue.

See all the details on the Our Campervan page.

How many travellers? The van has 3 certified seats, so it is ideal for 2 or 3 travellers. The 4 berths give you plenty of room to sleep, but every passenger must travel in a certified seat while driving.

When to go

Morocco can be visited all year round, and each season has its strengths:

  • Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November): the most pleasant periods to combine coast, mountains and desert.
  • Summer: very hot inland. The Atlantic coast (Essaouira, Taghazout, Agadir) stays cooler and breezy.
  • Winter: mild, sunny days in the south, cool nights and sometimes snow on the Atlas passes. Pack warm clothes.

Temperatures by region, month by month, and the best route for each season: read our guide to the best time to visit Morocco by campervan.

How many days?

  • 3 to 4 days: Marrakech, Essaouira and the Atlantic coast.
  • 7 days: the coast down to Taghazout and Agadir, returning inland.
  • 10 to 15 days: coast, Atlas mountains and the edge of the desert, at a relaxed pace.

Fewer kilometres and more time in each place is the best approach: mountain roads and villages often take longer than expected.

Where to sleep with a campervan in Morocco

We recommend equipped campsites first: you can plug in (useful for the van's electric hobs), refill water and sleep safely. You can also use authorised parking areas, such as some guarded car parks. Wild camping is not permitted everywhere: always check locally and respect any restrictions. Wherever you stay, leave no litter or waste water in nature. At handover, we share our tips for the stops on your route. Campsites, guarded car parks, wild camping: all our advice is in our guide on where to sleep in a campervan in Morocco.

Packing checklist

  • Passport and driving licence (plus an International Driving Permit if you have one).

  • Head torch, sunscreen, hat and warm clothes for the evenings.
  • Bath and beach towels.
